Surrey Player Development Programme
Surrey County Netball invites junior clubs every year to nominate players for the Player Development Programme.
We are able to nominate five players in year 9/8 for the U15 Squad and four in year 7/6 for the U13 Squad.
For the U15 Squad there are two trial stages, one in the summer term and the second after the summer break. The U13 process consists of workshops followed by a trial in the summer term.
If players are accepted onto the Programme, there is a major commitment to training but many Wey Valley members have benefited from the Programme over the years and some have gone on to elite levels of the game (x ref to Alumnae).
As coaches we are constantly reviewing the progress of all our players and we discuss nominations carefully every year. If we feel a player is ready, we will ask if she would like to trial – it is her choice, of course!
Alumnae
We have had many players in the past selected onto the England Netball Talent Pathway or the Storm Programme and it is always exciting to watch their progress. We actively support these schemes by nominating talented players every year.
It has been fantastic to see some of our Alumnae reach the heady heights of international squads:
Millie Cox – Republic of Ireland
Kaitlin Lawrence – Team Bath and Scotland
Marlene Lange – Surrey Storm U19, Loughborough Lightning U21 Champions, England U21
We also encourage our Alumnae to go on to play for adult clubs after year 11 to continue their netball career at a higher level during sixth form in preparation for BUCS or college netball if they go to university or further education.
